I did not attend my placement today because I flew to Michigan yesterday afternoon which is where I will spend my Christmas break. Yesterday was my last day in placement. I hated to see my field experience end, but I enjoyed every day of it and wish I could repeat the experience.
Only half of my class was at school today. Daniel was the only boy, so he felt special. When I arrived Mrs. McFarland told me to take the class to the bathroom. When we went back to the room, I read to the class for the last time. Once I read them the last book, they started watching a movie. I helped Mrs. McFarland remove items off desk and stacked them on the shelves. I then filled the pencil boxes with brand new pencils so they will be ready for the kids when they returned from Christmas break. Once the boxes were filled, I went out into the hallway and applied tape to the drawings the class did so the other students would not knock them off when they passed by in the hallway. After I finished that, Mrs. McFarland and I stood and watched the class. The students was engaged in the movie. This gave Mrs. McFarland and I time to talk for a little bit. After talking to her, I didn’t want to leave her. She’s such a wonderful person. When it was time for me to leave Mrs. McFarland gave me a hug. I told the class goodbye, but they didn’t understand that it would be the last time with them. When Mrs. McFarland told them that, they all jumped up and pulled me down on the floor into a big group hug. This just made things worst. I gave them all a big hug and left. Once I was at the end of the hall, I started crying. This was the best experience I ever had and I wished it had lasted longer. I can’t wait to become a teacher!
Today was my last day in my placement. It was a fun day because it is only a half day today. When I got there, the students were cleaning out there lockers. After they got done with that, they began to sing some Christmas songs. Then Mrs. Mathis gave me a Christmas present. It was a cup and I loved it. Also all the students signed a card for me. It was very thoughtful. I got Mrs. Mathis some things to help her students such as paper, pencils and pens. I also made her a crayon wreath. She loved that a lot. I hope she did at least. Then after that, the entire school went to the gym for some fun. They had some students play some music. It was actually really good. Then I had to leave. It was very sad to leave because I am going to miss my placement. I felt like I belonged at the middle school, and now I have to go back to reality. I will most definitely have to go back and visit.
Hooray for my last journal entry! When I got to Mrs. Catoe’s class, I found a gift on the back table for me, from Mrs. Catoe. It was a cute coffee mug (she loves her coffee) and the sweetest card I have ever received. It brought tears to my eyes. Since it was a half-day for them, they had no work to do. I was jealous. After Morning Meeting, they returned to their seats and played a spelling game. They had to spell as many words as they could from the one word, “Christmas.” I walked around and offered help and ideas to those who needed it. After that, they played Christmas Bingo. That was fun to watch. It is crazy how excited the students got over one piece of candy. They loved that game and Mrs. Catoe needed my help with keeping them calm and quiet. It was a tough job. It came time for me to leave and I was so sad. It took me about ten minutes just to say goodbye to them. I got so many “thank you’s” and “we’ll miss you’s.” I started to get teary-eyed and I knew that meant it was time for me to leave. I miss my second graders already!
Today is my very last day in my placement. Not happy about this at all. When I got to the classroom all of the kids were just talking. I had my cookies ready to go and my icing. Mrs. Gandy had left over plates from something else. As I got things put together, Mrs. Gandy told the class all they were going to do all day is go to center time. All the kids did was play in the centers like kitchen, color, block center. They got really, really excited and ran to the center they wanted. The little girl I failed was getting bullied a little. We had to put an end to that quickly. As they started playing, I called four kids over at the time. I gave each kid a cookies and let them decorate them however they wanted. Most of them decided that they wanted to save their cookies for lunch so I told them to put their cookies on top of the cubbies. After I called all the kids over and they decorated their cookies, I went and sat with Mrs. Gandy and we talked and I helped her get her stuff fixed and ready to send home. They were just little cards that had words on them for the kids to read while they are on break. Later Bosco came in and we all were talking and enjoying the relaxing day. I was so sad when I had to leave. Mrs. Gandy got all the kids attention and they all ran over and gave me hugs. I wanted to cry. It was so depressing.
Well today was just an buddle of mixed emotions. Everyone was so happy because it was the last day before break. When I arrived I talked to Mrs. Joyner in the morning for the final time. I also gave her her present which was a crayon reef I had made her. She also gave me my present which was a subway card and a scarf. She is so sweet and such a wonderful teacher. After exchanging gifts the kids arrived. While they were walking in the door a little boy handed me a Christmas present. I was a box of candies with a little card on top of it. I told him thank you and that he was so sweet! Him giving me this brought tears to my eyes and I had to hold them back. After that the kids just did a bunch of Christmas crafts and worksheets. I got to call some of them over and work with them on I pads and read with them. After that I took a group picture with the kids. We had four missing today, so it wasn’t quite complete but I won’t forget them. After taking pictures Mrs. Joyner read them another Christmas story and did the final morning meeting I would ever be a part of. After that it was sadly time for me to leave. The kids gave me hugs and told me they loved me. I walked out of the room with tears in my eyes. I will truly miss this class and I hate to leave them.
Our class did not meet today, so I did not get a large amount of time with the students in my class. Courtney and I hung out with the eighth graders in the gym while we listened to many of the students and teachers play famous Christmas songs. This was a great lesson about how far passionate teachers will go to any lengths to give their students a memorable and enjoyable experience. Afterwards, we had a great time singing other Christmas songs with the rest of the school. We danced around and sang at the top of our lungs. It was a blast. It broke my heart to leave the middle school. I’ve learned so much about teaching and what it takes to affect these students. It was the most incredible experience and I will remember it for the rest of my life. After completing this course, I am positive that I want to continue experiences like this for the rest of my life.
Today is my last day in my placement and Mrs. Sutusky will be observing me as I do my lesson on football. As the students came in they sat down for SSR and began reading when it was over. When Mrs. Sutusky arrived the students were getting dressed out. As they slowly came out they lined up on the baseline for stretches. Once they all came out we began stretching and finished with twenty pushups sit-ups. After that I put them in groups in demonstrated the proper form on how to throw the ball. They practiced for about five minutes then we switched to the proper mechanics of catching the football. Once they had that down they put the two skills together and practice throwing back and forth. Once the lesson was complete they were allowed to have the rest of class to play. At the end of class I said my goodbyes and passed out candy canes to the class
Today was the last day I was able to attend my placement, along with the last day before Christmas break. I realized today how much I loved being at my placement. When I arrived it was very laid back, all of the students were playing with paper airplane they were given. I also received several cards, notes, and even a gift from the students. After sitting in the classroom for a short time all of the students were dismissed to the gymnasium. The school organized a Christmas program. The student band played several songs. The staff even came up with a four person band, and played a few song. Overall the whole student body was involved by singing, and it was a very fun event. The students seemed as if they would miss me a lot, and I really dreaded leaving them. Even though today was my last day, it was the best day because I came to the realization of how attached I was to the students.
Well, today is the last day of my placement. It was such a fun yet sad day! I got to school with cupcakes for my students and I also had Mrs. Peake's gift. She also got me something so we opened our gifts at the same time. I gave her a canvas with the quote "The best teachers don't teach from the book, they teach from the heart." I felt like perfectly described Mrs. Peake perfectly. She is such a sweet person and she genuinely loves her jobs and students. She me a cute scarf and super fuzzy socks. I loved it! today the students cleaned out their lockers and then moved into the gym. Then members of the band performed Christmas songs. After that the whole school sang famous Christmas songs. Katie and stayed and it was amazing. The WHOLE school -teachers and students- sang the songs. Its amazing to see how much love the teachers have for the students and their jobs. North Central Middle has some amazing people. I hope I can be like them and be apart of a school as wonderful as NCMS. I've learned so much from everyone here during my placement and I'm so thankful I got the chance to have this experience!
