Placement Day 14 (November 20)

  1. Today was very exciting. When I got to Mrs. Catoe’s class, she asked me to cut out some stuff for more Thanksgiving activities. We then went back to Morning Meeting and Mrs. Catoe told the class about my lessons I will be teaching. They got so excited! We went over the calendar and the month and the students went back to their seats. They worked on their daily language and math. While they went over that, I got to sit alone with one student and help him with his math. His name is Landon and it is clear that he has some type of learning disability. Although I do not know what it is, I was excited to work with a challenged student. He did very well on his assignment. After that, Mrs. Catoe and I looked on her book shelf for the book “Stone Soup” which I am doing a lesson on next week. I am not sure what I am doing with it yet, but hopefully it will go well. Mrs. Catoe suggested I do a character analysis lesson for the students. I’m not sure yet.

  7. Today was “off.” I never got bored though. I read with another student today, which always makes time go by quicker. I organized the 100 book challenge folders and books. Then, Ms. Pigg asked me to read with a student. I like reading with students, but only every now and then. I really love reading to them during their morning reading time, but I think Ms. Pigg does too! So, every now and then I get to read to them. I can see the love Ms. Pigg has for her students. Reading with the students individually helps me realize each students need for help. I always look forward to the next day because the kids are so sweet! They give me a lot to look forward to. Maybe I can experience new things tomorrow!

  8. Today was a slow day in my placement. When I arrived there some of the students were in a special reading class. So I sat there and watched the class while Mrs. McFarland did her morning routine by checking the 100 book challenge for each student. While she was doing that 3 other students left for speech. This left the class with only 9 students. When Mrs. McFarland finished the 100 book challenge she went on to check homework. While she was doing that, I volunteered to take the class to the restroom. The smile that she put on her face told me that it was a big help. When I returned the students started to work on extra work while we were waiting on the other class to return. Mrs. McFarland asked me to fold names for a Relay for Life drawing. When I finished it, it was time for me to leave. By then the class had returned and they were beginning to work on math.

  11. Day 14 Nov 20
When I got to class I was a little late so I didn’t have time to greet any of the students. We read our usual fifteen minutes for SSR then I took attendance. Mrs. Holley then told the class that they will be running tiger-trails today and to dress out. While the students were dressing out I took the attendance to the office because the internet wasn’t working. When I got back the students were already stretching and soon began their five minute warm up lap. The class then went outside to run their two tiger-trails. I could definitely tell there was an improvement from last time the class ran. Overall, the class improved their times considerably. When we returned back into the gym the class did a couple of drills such as box jumps and jump rope. For the remaining time in class, Mrs. Holley allowed them to play basketball or volleyball. Today was a pretty easy day I thought. None of the students complained to much about what they had to do, and I played basketball with the students at the end of class.

  12. The kids were all anxious to read their books with me and Mrs. Mason chose a couple of the kids to read with me. Once I read with the couple of kids chosen I took the kids to the computer lab where they logged in to their AR accounts and took all the tests they needed to. Once I recorded all of the kid’s scores we went back to Mrs. Mason’s room where they were sat in front of the board. They went over their Vocabulary words and the sounds that each make. The kids then were sent back to their seats. Once the students finally finished everything dealing with vocabulary we read silently for a little bit longer. The kids were then told to turn in all their finished Vocabulary work. They then moved on to the finishing of their final drafts. We had almost finished the other day but there were a couple of kids who were having more problems than the others. So I went around and made sure that the kids were spelling everything correctly and using punctuation where it was needed. I didn’t get to everybody’s paper because it was time for me to go. - Christian
