Today was my third day to observe Ms. Pigg's second grade class at Bethune Elementary. Today was their "prize" day, which is every Friday from what I understood. They get "Wild Kitten Bucks" from behaving well in the classroom or hallways. I was actually shocked at how well these kids behave because I know high school kids who do not act as well as they do. When they got their prizes for behaving well, they then got to go back to their classroom for more prizes for reading books. I really enjoy talking to the kids and learning more about them. After the excitement of new prizes they began to go over their morning work. Today it was grammar. I look forward to my placement at Bethune Elementary because all the kids are very respectful and sweet!
When I arrived at my Kindergarten class I saw a few kids going into the library for the AR reading parade, something I know well from my days at Mt. Pisgah. After the parade was over and all the kids had returned to their classrooms, the Kindergarten class started on their daily calendar where they trace whatever number day it is and record the weather. Shortly after they all went to circle time where Mrs. Gandy told the kids it was Smartie Day. She handed out smarties to all the kids and they when to their activities and before I knew it, it was time for me to leave. Fun times in Kindergarten.
Today when I arrived I did the same as yesterday and checked their homework and reading logs. If they did all of it I gave them two Ram bucks. Then they started morning work in which I went around and help different students complete it. After morning work we watched the morning news show where they introduced AR stars. After they introduced the AR stars we all went into the hall with all the other classes and had an AR parade for the stars. There were parents there and they had a blast. Then when we all got back into the room and settled down I took two kids to the book fair. I helped the two very different students find books based on their interests which were very neat to find out. when we arrived back at the class room they took a reading and writing test which I helped one student with his. After that it was time for me to leave, so I said goodbye a left. - Summer
