Observations Day One

  1. Today I went to Mrs. Mathis's class to observe. She is teaching eight grade math. Today they were learning how to do inequalities. It was very simple to me, but it was interesting to see how some kids struggled and some did not. They asked me questions and I was able to help them. Mrs. Mathis is going to really try and incorporate me. I am excited to help these kids learn and excited to maybe even teach them something. It was a very short time, but I am so exited.

  2. In Mrs. Gandy's kindergarten class things are done very differently. It was incredibly adorable watching those five and six year olds try to read. I about died! I kind of watched the kids piddle around and Mrs. Gandy and Mrs. Barrett do there thing. I fortunately know both of them because Mrs. Gandy used to babysit me and Mrs. Barrett was substituting back in the day. I mainly enjoyed when the little kids got comfortable and started showing off. I LOVED those children.

  3. Today, I went to Bethune Elementary to observe the classroom I will be in for my placement. When I got to Ms. Pigg's Second Grade Class, each student was working on something different. Some were doing three-digit math problems, others were separating pictures into different categories such as birds and amphibians. I introduced myself and then went around to every student to see what they were doing and to ask them their names. By the time I had to leave, they had finished going over their morning work and their reading time. The second graders were very sweet. Although I only know one of the kids away from school, I'm extremely excited about getting to interact with all of them.

  4. Today I went to Bethune Elementary. My teacher, Ms. McFarland and her class went on a field trip to McLeod's Farms so I went to Ms. Pigg's room with Megan. The kids in Ms. Pigg's room were very talkative and so sweet! They talked about the weather, the date, math, and English while we were visiting the class. Before we left, we got to hear Ms. Pigg read a book to her class about why ostriches have long necks. After she finished reading the book, she let one of her students read to the class. When the time came to leave, I didn't want to go. They're all so sweet! Even though this was not my class today, I enjoyed it so much!

  5. Today during my placement I observed Mrs. Masons 3rd grade class. They read about bats and started writing their rough drafts. Some of the students had read AR books and went to the computer lab to take the test where I would write down their score and initial it. All the kids were well-mannered and they mainly kept their attention on what Mrs. Mason was teaching. The students also got along with each other really nicely and they greeted me warmly.

  6. Today I had my first day as a teacher cadet for Coach Fry at North Central Middle School. It was very interesting and I started off with the students coming in and getting assign seats since they were a new class. Then the students were gave the syllabus for the class and Coach Fry explained the general idea behind it, while he was doing this me and William helped Coach Greenway take down the volleyball equipment and put it in storage. After everybody was seated all the boys were gave a locker while the girls waited their turn. After they were gave their lockers they were allowed to play and I left around the appoximate time

  7. Today I observed Mr. Leininger's eighth grade social studies class. The students began their day with their warm up. For their warm-up they had to copy down facts about South Carolina. Then the students worked in groups completing an assignment out of their workbooks. The students had an SC facts notebook check. I assisted Mr. Leininger with the grading process. It was a lot of fun to see how Mr. Leininger interacted with the students. It was a really great first day and I cannot wait to go back.

  8. Today I got to observe Mrs. Peake's eighth grade English class. Today the students worked on editing and revising a scary story they had each written, after they watched Channel One News. I got to walk around the room and listen to their stories as they read them to a partner. I love the students in the class and Mrs. Peake is a fabulous teacher. I can't wait until I get to really know every one in the class and actually teach them! I'm so excited to spend the rest of the semester in my placement!

  9. Day One was fabulous! I went to Mrs. Catoe's 2nd Grade class and observed. The students are so well-behaved. They have great manners and are so bright! Mrs. Catoe allowed me to introduce myself to them. Some students recognized me from being a cheerleader. Mrs. Catoe and I have so many great things planned!

  11. I had an AMAZING first day with my placement! Mrs. Kahler is an awesome teacher and I'm confident that I'm going to learn so much from her. The students in English 1 spent a majority of the time taking a test on Romeo and Juliet, today. I can't wait until tomorrow, so I am able to interact with them more. I am so excited for the rest of the semester!
